A Note From Susan

This communication represents the second of our new update to you, our close partners, which is focused on operational activities, shared learning and collaborative work that is designed to directly meet the individual needs of our communities. It’s created in response to requests and questions I’ve received, as well as our own intentionality of creating more visibility and feedback channels for our shared work. I invite your input on how this communication meets your own needs and how to strengthen the value it’s intended to deliver.

Progress On Previously Reported Work and What’s Currently in Motion

Disaster Medical Coordination Center (DMCC) Planning

We have almost completed the interviews with regional DMCC’s (one more to go!), leveraging support from Jensen Hughes. We are very excited to continue to move this work forward, you’ll continue to be updated.

National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) Operational Surge Planning

The work reported is continuing in partnership with the University of Washington and U.W. Medicine. An update on new activities will be complete to share in the next Network Ops update.

· New – Emphasis is now on finding solutions to barriers and patient movement activation planning.

FIFA World Cup 2026

Work continues supporting healthcare planning with Emergency Management and the Washington State Department of Health.

· New – The Network will be co-leading state level mass casualty incident (MCI) and patient tracking to support reunification planning, as well as working with local and regional partners to support critical work in planning for the 2026 World Cup events. Additionally, we continue a statewide situational assessment (S/A), leadership engagement, and coordinating response.

Pediatric Annex Update

New for fiscal year 2025-2026, the Network is updating the Pediatric Surge Annex. A Pediatric Capabilities Assessment Form will be forthcoming to all in-patient hospitals in our coalition footprint to complete. This information will be collated into one resource for all healthcare to use when in need of pediatric care.

Finalized Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA)

Also new within this fiscal year is the finalization of the HVA. In 2024, the Network partnered with Jensen Hughes to review the existing HVA process, identify areas of enhancement and deliver a final product more attuned to the healthcare partners we serve. This third-party review of the HVA process allowed us to strategically allocate resources and efforts, while validating the positive impact of the HVA process and report. You can see the results here.
