Seattle Radiological Security Workshop
June 11, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Learn how federal funding can be used to secure your business, your community, your country.
Radioactive materials play an important role in medical, research, and commercial applications. These materials are stored in facilities, in various locations throughout the United States, and are heavily regulated. However, if these radioactive sources were to fall into the wrong hands, they could be used in a radiological dispersal device (RDD), “dirty bomb,” or in an act of terrorism.
As an organization of the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), the Office of Radiological Security (ORS) works with governments, law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, host facilities, hospitals, and industries to provide federally funded security enhancements, subject matter expertise, training, radioactive source recovery, and alternative replacement strategies to users of high-activity radioactive materials.
Agenda
During the workshop, we will review the threat of high-activity radioactive materials and the programs that ORS has in place to protect, remove, and reduce the threat of these radioactive materials. You will hear from subject matter experts from federal, state, and local perspectives and get real-time answers and access to resources during open workshop and break-out sessions.
Who Should Attend
Law Enforcement, Radiation Safety Officers, Facility Safety and Security Directors, Facility Operators, Radiation Safety Inspectors, and representatives from facilities that use radioactive sources and radiological devices such as cesium-137 blood irradiators, cobalt-60research irradiators, and gamma knife devices.
For more information please review the ORS Security Workshop flyer.
