SUMMARY:Health Sector Emergency Preparedness (HSEP) Course
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this course is to provide healthcare providers and suppliers with training in achieving the four core emergency preparedness elements outlined in the September 2016 Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Emergency Preparedness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers Rule. \nThe course provides instruction\, guided discussion\, best practice tools\, and resources for the conduct of a risk assessment; the development of an emergency plan; the development of associated policies and procedures; the creation of a communications plan; and the training and testing of the plans\, policies and procedures. \n\nDetermine requirements for a specific supplier or provider in accordance with CMS Emergency Preparedness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers Rule (Final Rule).\nDetermine requirements and considerations for conducting a health sector risk assessment in accordance with the best practices and Comprehensive Preparedness Guide 201: Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Guide.\nDetermine requirements and considerations for developing an emergency preparedness plan in accordance with Comprehensive Preparedness Guide 101: Developing and Maintaining Emergency Operations Plans.\nHSEP POI 1.0 2\nDetermine requirements and considerations for creating emergency preparedness policies and procedures for a health sector facility consistent with emergency planning principles and best practices.\nDetermine requirements and considerations for creating a communication plan for a health sector facility consistent with emergency planning principles and best practices.\nDetermine requirements and considerations for creating the emergency preparedness training and testing (exercising) for a health sector facility consistent with emergency planning principles and best practices.\n\n\n\nYou must have a FEMA SID number before you can apply for the class. SUMMARY:AWR-160-SAT Standardized Awareness Training
DESCRIPTION:This eight-hour course is delivered in your jurisdiction and focuses on training responders to meet the requirements established in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 472\, Chapter 4\, “Competencies for Awareness Level Personnel\,” and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.120 (q) (6) (i) (a–f) “First Responder Awareness Level” competencies.\nThis course takes an all-hazards approach to Hazardous Materials (HazMat) incidents\, including acts of terrorism where Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) materials may have been used. It provides participants the knowledge to recognize the hazardous material\, protect themselves\, notify others\, and secure the scene. \nTopics in this course include: Prevention and Deterrence\, Identification of Hazardous Materials and the ERG\, Chemical Agents\, Biological Agents\, Radiological Materials and Nuclear Weapons\, and Explosive Devices. \nCourse objectives: \n\nIdentify terms and concepts that are applicable to the prevention and deterrence of terrorist and CBRNE incidents.\nIdentify hazardous materials\, hazard classes\, and response information using the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG).\nDiscuss selected chemical agents including the physiological signs and symptoms of exposure\, potential sources\, indicators of an attack\, physical characteristics.\nDiscuss selected biological agents\, including the physiological signs and symptoms of exposure\, potential sources\, indicators of an attack\, and physical characteristics.\nDiscuss radiation and radiological materials.\nDiscuss explosives\, including the characteristics and the effects of a detonated explosive device.\n\nRequired prerequisites: \n\nIS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System (any version)\nIS-700: Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS)\n\nVisit FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute to complete these Independent Study courses. \nCourse manager:\nStephanie M.
