SUMMARY:ATC-20 Post-Disaster Safety Evaluation of Building and Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:MultiCare Health System’s Emergency Management and Business Continuity Department is hosting a half-day training session on post-disaster safety evaluation procedures (ATC-20) to help you develop the necessary skills to properly assess damaged buildings for occupancy and use following a major disaster. Taught by Structural Engineers with hands-on experience in disasters locally and internationally\, you will learn current methods for performing post-disaster safety evaluations of buildings and infrastructure. Building safety evaluation exercises based on real-life examples of earthquake\, tsunami\, wind\, and landslide damage from significant disasters in the U.S.\, Taiwan\, China\, Haiti\, Chile\, New Zealand and Japan will be presented. \nTraining Topics \n\nA detailed presentation of ATC-20 building safety evaluation procedures with an emphasis on the evaluation of critical hospital facilities.\nIncludes customization related to projected EQ damage to construction types found in MultiCare’s Puget Sound area hospitals.\nFor Safety\, Security\, Risk Management\, Emergency Management\, Emergency Response Team members as well as those with Facilities/Engineering responsibilities.\nTraining is to build skills to be able to serve on rapid exterior building damage assessment teams. This assessment is a precursor to structural interior & exterior assessment teams being available.\nHow do buildings and infrastructure structurally react to earthquake forces and other extreme loading?\nProcedures and example exercises for buildings constructed from wood\, masonry\, concrete\, and steel.\nGREEN\, YELLOW\, and RED placards\, what are they\, what do they mean\, and how do we use them?\nWhen and how do you perform a safety assessment and post a building?\nHow to triage building safety evaluations and postings after a disaster?\n\nCosts \nFree for all MultiCare staff that are members of Hospital Emergency Management Committees to include Facilities\, Safety\, Clinical and Security staff (existing or new members) that would like to serve on Damage Assessment Teams as part of Hospital Incident Command. \nNon-MultiCare staff will be able to attend at $65/person\, based on the availability and includes a copy of the ATC-20 field guide.
