The webinar provided training and guidance regarding how healthcare organizations and staff should conceptualize and implement robust patient screening protocols (inpatient and outpatient) to identify patients who may have acquired or been exposed to acute infectious diseases.  Topics included:

  • Lessons learned from the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak and more recent state outbreaks
  • Challenges and opportunities with current patient screening protocols (ex: electronic staff training, health records, and changing outbreak response practices)
  • The role of the CDC’s Quarantine Station in Seattle and its interaction with healthcare organizations and state and local public health agencies
  • Geographic versus syndromic screening, as well as time-based screening
